What is the Dominican Republic e-Ticket?

The Dominican Republic e-Ticket is an electronic form used for travel into and out of the country on commercial flights. It brings together information requested for immigration, customs and, where applicable, public-health purposes.

It is not an airline ticket, a visa or an automatic authorization to enter the Dominican Republic. Your passport, nationality, travel purpose and any other applicable entry conditions still matter. Once the form has been completed, the system generates a confirmation with a QR code for the relevant journey.

An e-Ticket QR code confirms that the electronic form has been completed. It does not replace a visa or guarantee admission at the border.

Who needs to complete the e-Ticket?

Foreign visitors and Dominican nationals who enter or leave the Dominican Republic on a commercial flight must complete the e-Ticket. This applies nationwide, including flights using Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, La Romana and Puerto Plata airports.

The e-Ticket is not limited to tourists. The key factor is travel by commercial air, rather than the airport or resort destination. Punta Cana does not have a separate Punta Cana e-Ticket or a different immigration form.

Families and children

A family travelling together can be included in one submission. The official guidance allows the person completing the form to add up to six additional family members, for a maximum of seven people on one form. If more than seven people are travelling together, another form is needed for the remaining travellers.

One QR code is generated for the family submission. Children are included in the family travel information, but only adults complete the customs section. Make sure every traveller’s passport details match the document that will be used for the flight.

Travellers not covered by this air-travel process

The commercial-flight e-Ticket rule should not be assumed to apply in the same way to every mode of transport. Official guidance states that passengers arriving on private flights, non-commercial vessels, ferries or cruise ships do not need this e-Ticket; physical customs and embarkation or disembarkation forms may be accepted instead. Check the instructions that apply to your actual transport arrangement.

When should you complete the Dominican Republic e-Ticket?

You can complete the Dominican Republic e-Ticket as soon as you have your flight information, including months before travel. The former requirement to complete it within 72 hours before the trip is no longer the current rule.

Do not leave it until you are at the airport. The form should be completed before you reach the airline check-in counter, because the airline may need to see the completed e-Ticket confirmation. Completing it before your travel day also gives you time to check names, passport numbers and accommodation details without the pressure of boarding.

Complete the e-Ticket using the correct details for your journey, and review your flight information before travelling. Complete the form for the journey you are actually taking, with the flight details available at that time.

How to complete the Dominican Republic e-Ticket form

Use the Dominican government’s official e-Ticket portal and follow the form for the relevant journey. The layout and wording of an online portal can change, but the practical preparation is consistent.

  1. Gather your travel information first. Have your passport, airline and flight number, arrival or departure date, and your Dominican accommodation details ready. If you are travelling with relatives, also have the required identity and trip details for each accompanying traveller.
  2. Choose the correct journey. Complete the information for entering or leaving the Dominican Republic as prompted. Do not assume an arrival confirmation will automatically apply to your departure flight.
  3. Enter passport data carefully. Copy names, passport number, nationality and date of birth exactly as they appear in the travel document. A small mismatch can create an avoidable problem at check-in or during travel.
  4. Add flight and stay details. Use the flight details for that specific journey and enter the accommodation information requested. If you are staying in a vacation rental, obtain the full address from the host, including the province, municipality and sector.
  5. Complete the declarations requested by the form. Answer the immigration, customs and any other questions truthfully for the traveller or group. Adults and children may not be asked for exactly the same information.
  6. Review the submission before finishing. Check each traveller, particularly when a family form includes several passports. Review the departure information separately when preparing for the return flight.
  7. Save the application code. The system issues an application code when you begin. Keep it somewhere accessible because it can be used to consult the e-Ticket and make changes where the portal allows them.
  8. Save the confirmation QR code. Take a screenshot or print the confirmation after completing the form. Keep it with your travel documents.

Some travellers prefer optional private assistance to work through an electronic form step by step. That assistance is separate from the official process and does not issue the e-Ticket or decide whether a traveller may enter the country.

How to obtain and present the QR code

The QR code is generated after the e-Ticket has been completed. Save a screenshot on your phone as soon as it appears, and consider keeping a printed copy as a backup. An offline copy is useful if airport Wi-Fi, mobile data or battery life becomes a problem.

For a family submission, the official guidance says that one QR code is generated for the family. Keep the code accessible to the person managing the group’s travel documents, while ensuring that every family member also has their own passport ready.

Airlines may ask to see the confirmation before boarding, and authorities can verify the information during the travel process. Checkpoints can vary by airport and circumstances, so do not rely on being asked for the QR code at one identical point on every trip.

Do you need a separate e-Ticket for departure?

Yes. The Dominican Republic uses e-Ticket confirmations for both entry and exit, so the arrival QR code should not be treated as a reusable document for your return flight. Prepare the departure e-Ticket with the correct outbound flight information before leaving the country.

For a short holiday, it is often practical to complete the arrival form before departure for the Dominican Republic, then prepare the departure form once the return-flight details are confirmed. Save both confirmations separately so they are not confused.

Punta Cana e-Ticket: is it different?

No. Travellers flying to or from Punta Cana use the same national Dominican Republic e-Ticket system as travellers using Santo Domingo, La Romana or Puerto Plata. There is no separate Punta Cana immigration form.

Your airport, airline and flight number still need to be entered accurately for the journey concerned. The destination resort or city does not create a separate e-Ticket requirement.

Is the Dominican Republic e-Ticket free or paid?

Completing the form directly through the official government portal is free. Optional private assistance services may charge for help with completing the form, but they are not the government portal and do not replace the official process.

The e-Ticket is not a visa or passport check

Completing the e-Ticket does not answer every entry-requirements question. It is separate from any visa requirement, passport condition, round-trip or onward-travel requirement, health measure, or other document that may apply to your trip.

Whether a visa is needed can depend on the passport used, nationality, residence status, purpose and length of travel, and other individual circumstances. The same applies to some passport and supporting-document requirements. Use Go2Entry as an independent tool to check entry formalities that may apply to your own passport and itinerary; Go2Entry does not issue the Dominican Republic e-Ticket.

Common Dominican Republic e-Ticket problems and practical solutions

Passport details do not match

Use the passport you will present for the flight and copy its details exactly. Check the order of names, passport number and date of birth before completing the form. If a mistake is discovered, use the application code to consult the e-Ticket and make changes where the official portal permits them. Do not assume that every submitted field will always remain editable.

Your flight changes

A changed flight number, date or airport can mean the travel information in the existing e-Ticket no longer reflects the journey. Retrieve the application with the code and check whether the relevant information can be updated. If the portal does not allow the required correction, complete the appropriate form again using the current flight details.

You lost the QR code

A lost screenshot does not necessarily mean the form has been lost. Retrieve the submission using the application code issued at the start of the process, then consult the confirmation again if the portal makes it available. Save a new screenshot and, if useful, a printed copy.

You lost the application code

The application code is important because it is the official reference used to consult an e-Ticket and make permitted changes. Search your travel notes, screenshots and any confirmation material first. If you cannot retrieve the form, avoid guessing which details were submitted; use the official portal’s available recovery options or complete a new submission if necessary for your journey.

Your residence city is missing from the list

If your exact city of residence is not listed, official guidance says you can select the nearest large city in your state or province. This is intended for the residence-city selection, not as a substitute for accurate accommodation details in the Dominican Republic.

You are staying at a rental property

Ask the host for the complete address before opening the form. The official guidance specifically recommends having the province, municipality and sector, as incomplete accommodation details can make the entry form harder to complete correctly.

Before you travel: a simple e-Ticket checklist

  • Confirm whether you are travelling on a commercial flight, as this is the situation covered by the e-Ticket requirement.
  • Have the passport for each traveller and the correct flight details ready.
  • Prepare the full Dominican accommodation address.
  • Complete the arrival e-Ticket before reaching the airline check-in counter.
  • Save the application code, QR code screenshot and a backup copy.
  • Prepare a separate departure e-Ticket for the flight leaving the Dominican Republic.
  • Check separately whether your passport and trip require a visa or other entry documents.

The e-Ticket is straightforward when the information is prepared in advance, but it should never be treated as the only document needed for international travel. A quick review before check-in can prevent the most common issues: an incorrect passport number, an old flight number, missing accommodation information or a missing departure confirmation.
