What Is the Indonesia eVOA?

The Indonesia eVOA, or electronic Visa on Arrival, is an online version of Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival. It allows eligible passport holders to obtain a B1 Visa on Arrival before travelling, rather than applying and paying at an immigration checkpoint after landing.

The B1 visa is a single-entry visa. It normally gives an initial stay of up to 30 days from arrival and may be extended once, subject to the applicable conditions. The eVOA is valid for Bali as well as other Indonesian destinations; it is not a visa specifically for Bali.

Choosing an eVOA can make arrival more straightforward because the visa payment is completed before travel. It does not replace other entry requirements that may apply to your trip. For the wider picture, including passport and arrival formalities, see Bali and Indonesia entry requirements.

Who Can Apply for an Indonesia eVOA?

Eligibility for an Indonesia eVOA depends primarily on the passport you will use, your travel purpose and your intended point of entry. Indonesia’s current Visa on Arrival list includes holders of ordinary British, American, Australian and Canadian passports, provided they meet the other requirements for the relevant Visa on Arrival category.

The B1 category is intended for eligible Visa on Arrival travellers making a short visit, including tourism and certain permitted business or medical purposes. It is not the appropriate route for employment, long-term study, residence or another activity that requires a different Indonesian visa.

  • Eligibility to apply: your nationality and travel document must be covered by the Visa on Arrival rules, and your travel plans must fit the B1 category.
  • Visa issuance: an application must be processed and issued correctly; submitting or paying for an application is not the same as receiving an eVOA.
  • Entry permission: an issued eVOA does not guarantee admission. Immigration officers make the final decision at the border.

The online eVOA route is designed for holders of national passports. Emergency passports, temporary passports, certificates of identity, travel documents and other documents that are not national passports may not be eligible for eVOA and can require an eVisa obtained before travel. Your country of residence alone does not determine eligibility.

Visa on Arrival is available only at designated immigration checkpoints. If you are arriving by an unusual route, private vessel or a less common airport or seaport, confirm that your intended entry point can process the relevant visa before travelling.

What Documents Do You Need for an Indonesia eVOA?

Prepare clear digital files before opening your Indonesia eVOA online application. The portal may request additional information depending on your application, so follow the live instructions shown for your visa category.

Documents to Upload

The official online visa guidance identifies the following core uploads and account details:

  • Passport biodata page: a clear image of the full page showing your photograph and passport details. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive in Indonesia.
  • Recent passport-style photograph: upload a separate face photograph, not a cropped image of your passport biodata page.
  • File format and size: official guidance lists JPG, JPEG or PNG files with a maximum size of 200 KB for the passport biodata image and passport-style photograph.
  • Return or onward travel evidence: keep a return or onward ticket available. It can be required for the visa conditions and may be checked by immigration on arrival.

Use sharp, readable images. A blurred passport image, a cropped page, or a photo that does not clearly show your face can lead to an upload problem or further checks. The official guidance describes the photograph as recent, but does not establish a universal 12-month rule for every application screen; follow the portal’s current instructions.

Information Required in the Application

You should expect to provide your full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, passport issue and expiry dates, email address and travel details. The application can also request your intended arrival information and accommodation or address in Indonesia. You will need payment details for the official visa fee.

Enter every name, number and date exactly as shown in the passport you will carry. In particular, check your full name, passport number, date of birth and nationality before payment.

Documents to Keep for Arrival

Travel with the same passport used in your application, your issued eVOA, and evidence of onward or return travel. Keep an accessible digital copy of the eVOA and consider carrying a printed copy in case you cannot access your device or email at the airport. Immigration may also ask questions or request supporting documents relevant to your journey.

How to Apply for an Indonesia eVOA Online

The online application should be completed using the current official Indonesian eVisa system. Read the live instructions carefully, as account and screen layouts can change.

  1. Choose how to apply for your Indonesia eVOA: use the official Indonesian eVisa portal to complete your application independently. If you prefer assistance, you can also choose an optional private service offering step-by-step guidance and a review of your information before submission.
  2. Select the appropriate Visa on Arrival / B1 category: make sure the purpose and length of your visit match the visa category before continuing.
  3. Create or access an account if required: use an email address you can access throughout the application and before departure.
  4. Enter your personal details: provide your name, date of birth, nationality and other requested information exactly as recorded in your passport.
  5. Enter your passport details: carefully check the passport number plus the issue and expiry dates. A discrepancy can make an issued eVOA unusable.
  6. Upload the requested documents: add the passport biodata page and passport-style photograph in the required file format and size.
  7. Provide travel and accommodation details when requested: enter your expected arrival details and Indonesian address accurately.
  8. Review all information carefully: check spelling, dates, passport details, nationality and travel information before submitting. Processed eVOA details may not be changeable, and a correction after payment is not guaranteed.
  9. Pay the official visa fee: complete payment through the available method shown by the official system. Keep the transaction reference and payment evidence.
  10. Check the application status and download the issued eVOA: do not treat a payment page or pending status as an issued visa. Review the final document closely once it becomes available.

An eVOA must match the passport used for travel. If the final document contains incorrect passport details, do not assume it can be used at the border.

How Much Does the Indonesia eVOA Cost?

The official fee for the B1 Visa on Arrival is IDR 500,000. This is the Indonesian government visa fee and is separate from any transaction charge that may be shown by a payment provider.

If you later apply for an extension, that is a separate immigration process with its own official fee. Optional private assistance, where available, is also separate from the government visa fee and does not change the official decision-making process.

How Long Does Indonesia eVOA Processing Take?

Indonesia eVOA applications may be processed quickly when all the required information and documents are correct. However, processing times can vary depending on the application, payment confirmation and any additional checks. Apply well before departure rather than relying on a specific processing time.

Delays can occur if an upload is unclear, information does not match the passport, payment is incomplete, an account cannot be verified, or additional checks are needed. Apply with enough time to resolve a problem before departure rather than relying on last-minute processing.

  • Processing time: the time taken for the online application to be processed after submission and payment.
  • Application window: the period before travel in which you choose to apply.
  • Visa validity for entry: the period in which an issued eVOA can be used to enter Indonesia.
  • Permitted stay: the time you may remain in Indonesia after arriving, which is not the same as the entry-validity period.

When Should You Apply for an Indonesia eVOA?

Apply early enough to allow for processing, payment or upload issues, but do not apply so early that the visa’s entry-validity period no longer fits your arrival date. An issued eVOA can generally be used to enter Indonesia within 90 days of issue.

The 90-day period is the window to use the visa for entry. It is not permission to stay in Indonesia for 90 days. Your initial permitted stay begins when you enter Indonesia and is normally up to 30 days for B1 holders.

The eVOA is also separate from an All Indonesia Arrival Card or any other arrival declaration that may apply to your route. Completing one does not replace the other.

How to Check Your Indonesia eVOA Application Status

Use the official eVisa account or application area to check whether your Indonesia eVOA is pending, issued or requires further action. The system may also send a notification to the registered email address, so check your inbox and spam folder, but rely on the status and final document available through the official system.

Once issued, download the eVOA and compare all details with your passport. Save a copy on your phone or another accessible device and consider printing it for your travel documents.

How Long Is an Indonesia eVOA Valid?

An Indonesia eVOA B1 is a single-entry visa. It has two different time limits that travellers should not confuse:

  • Validity period for entry: the eVOA can generally be used to enter Indonesia within 90 days from its issue date.
  • Permitted stay after arrival: B1 normally allows an initial stay of up to 30 days, counted from the date of arrival.

Always use the dates shown on your issued document and immigration record. A 90-day window to enter does not create a 90-day stay entitlement.

Can You Extend an Indonesia eVOA From 30 to 60 Days?

Yes, a Visa on Arrival stay can generally be extended once for up to a further 30 days, allowing a potential total stay of up to 60 days. The extension is not automatic: apply before your current stay permission expires and follow the official instructions that apply to your eVOA and location.

The extension process is handled through the immigration system and can require updated address details, requested supporting files, payment and an immigration-office appointment for photographs and an interview. Do not assume every case can be completed remotely. Keep a valid onward or departure ticket available, and allow time for the process rather than waiting until the final day.

Indonesia eVOA Rejected, Delayed or Incorrect: What to Do

If payment is declined, first check that the card supports international online transactions, that funds or credit are available, and that the card details were entered correctly. If a payment appears to have been taken but the application does not update, keep the transaction reference and proof of payment, then check the official account before attempting another payment.

If an upload is rejected, prepare a clearer passport biodata image or face photograph in the required format and size. Do not repeatedly submit the same unsuitable file. If the application remains pending or the eVOA is not received, check the official status area, your email and spam folder, then use the official support channels if the portal directs you to do so.

For a misspelled name, wrong passport number or another material error, do not assume a paid eVOA can be edited. Processed eVOA information may not be changeable and payment may be non-refundable, so check the official options before creating a replacement application. Avoid unnecessary duplicate payments, and never treat a pending application as an approved visa.

Can You Apply for an Indonesia eVOA for Children?

Children need their own accepted travel document and their own immigration formalities. A parent’s eVOA does not automatically cover a child travelling with them.

Check each child’s passport validity, nationality eligibility and application details separately. Official fees can apply per application, and you should only rely on family or linked-application features if they are available in the current official portal.

Indonesia eVOA vs Visa on Arrival at the Airport

The eVOA and Visa on Arrival relate to the same Visa on Arrival route for eligible travellers, but the timing is different. With an Indonesia eVOA, you complete the application and government payment before travelling. With a Visa on Arrival at the airport or another designated checkpoint, you apply and pay after arrival.

  • eVOA: useful if you prefer to prepare the visa online, check the issued document before departure and avoid arranging the visa payment after landing.
  • Visa on Arrival on arrival: can be an option for eligible travellers entering through a designated checkpoint, but you must still meet the conditions and complete the process at arrival.

Neither route guarantees entry, and neither removes the need for an eligible passport, an appropriate travel purpose or any documents immigration officers may request.
